He added the community is in a drought and should the coals catch fire, a tragedy could happen since “it's all wooded there.”īass, who said he has been touring the local parks every weekend since the pandemic, said while safety concerns have been brought up in the past, this summer appears to be worse due to the remains of open campfires. “They'll take the coals and dump them right on the side of the riverbank or dump them right up on the river,” Bass said. The issue was put on the town’s radar after the Park and Recreation Department found “bags upon bags” of trash in the area, including dirty diapers and leftover food, Bass said.Īdditionally, coals have been found from grills that have been brought to the area. Parking will now be by permit only by the train tracks, Sega Meadow in the lot on River Road, and the allowable pull-offs on River Road, Bass said. “You go about a mile into there and then it changes into dirt roads.” You go over the railroad tracks like you're going toward New Milford - there's River Road that's right there,” Bass said. “In Sega Meadows, there's a small parking lot. The area Bass is referring to is Sega Meadows Park, near Boardman Bridge.
